Background:
The No Boundaries Coalition is a resident-led advocacy organization building an empowered Central West Baltimore across the boundaries of race, class and neighborhood.  We mobilize residents from 7 21217 neighborhoods to improve public safety, increase police accountability, increase access to healthy foods, increase opportunities for young people and increase voter turnout.

In the summer of 2015 BUILD and the No Boundaries Coalition created BYOP: The Baltimore Youth Organizing Project. For two years, young people from Baltimore have developed a political platform based on listening to over 400 young people, got commitments from all top Mayoral candidates to their platform and have worked to hold Mayor Pugh accountable, including a 3 month campaign in the spring of 2017 to restore funding to after school funding.

This fall, from the success of BYOP, the No Boundaries Coalition is creating a youth development and organizing program specifically for Central West Baltimore youth.  No Boundaries has a full time youth organizer, a core team of returning youth and an applicant pool for youth organizer who did 5 hours of training with us this summer.  We are looking for an adult organizer who can support the amazing youth leaders in training, development and logistics to strengthen the program.

The Director of Youth Organizing will be responsible for…

  • Training and mentoring a core team of 10 youth organizers from Central West Baltimore
  • Building relationships with other youth organizations and youth in Baltimore to build power for youth city-wide.
  • Develop training and support to help high school students in the program apply for college.
  • Organize a core group of adult leaders from the 200+ membership of the No Boundaries Coalition to support the youth and their agenda.
  • Organize once a week meeting for youth team that will include training, planning, strategy development and work on specific actions.
  • Create a leadership development curriculum for the school year and summer organizing classes.
  • Identify key issues for Central West Baltimore youth by organizing a listening campaign.  Work with youth team members to listen to 200 young people about what issues are most important to them
  • Plan, organize and carry out youth-led actions to hold elected officials accountable for investing in youth, specifically around funding for rec centers, after school programs and year-round youth jobs.
  • Research policy issues as needed.
  • Writing grants to support the youth organizing program and supporting other fundraising initiatives.
  • Reporting on grants from existing funding sources.
  • Supporting the work of the No Boundaries Coalition, including building individual membership, organizational membership and fundraising for the coalition.
  • Participate in community-wide events hosted by the No Boundaries Coalition and monthly membership meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience in community organizing.
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience with youth programming and/or education.
  • Knowledge of and background in West Baltimore communities.
  • Grant writing and tracking experience.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Self motivated and reliable.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and balance workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage volunteers.

Compensation:
This is a full time position with health benefits. Salary range $45-50,000 annually based on experience.
